FAQ’s

We believe in the motto Better Informed, Better Results. That’s why we make it our mission to empower our customers with the information and options you need to make the right buying decision for your home. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together a list of the most frequently asked questions (and answers) to help guide you in your replacement window journey.

Let’s get started.

Window FAQs

A: There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. That’s because your cost will vary depending on several factors, including:

  • What type of material your replacement windows are made from (vinyl, composite, wood)
  • How many windows you are replacing
  • If your windows are standard size or custom size
  • How energy efficient you want your windows to be

The best way to get an accurate cost for your replacement windows is to schedule an estimate. (Or more than one.)

A: This depends on a number of factors, but in general, if you have older single-pane windows, the frames are cracked or rotting, they’re hard to open and close, it’s time to replace your windows. You might also want to make your home more energy-efficient or update the look. Those are also good reasons to replace your windows.

A: The best replacement windows are the ones that offer you the best bang for your buck. Seek out windows that offer the best energy efficiency you can afford. You also want to get windows from a reputable manufacturer. We install replacement windows from Simonton, Andersen, Marvin, Interstate, and others.

A: The first step is getting an on-site estimate, where we talk with you about your goals, needs, and budget. We’ll take precise measurements for your replacement windows, and generate an estimate for you. If you choose to work with us, we will then place an order for your windows. Depending on if they are in stock or custom order, we would then schedule a date for your window replacement.

When we arrive on installation day, our crew will get to work, removing the old windows, making any repairs to the window frame, and installing the new windows. It’s a fairly quick process, and in many cases, we can install replacement windows in your whole house in a day. We ensure everything looks good both inside and outside your home.

We would tell you how long installation would take when we come out to give you your estimate.

A: There are so many window types, we have another page dedicated to that. Please follow the link to learn more.

A: The National Fenestration Research Council (NFRC) label signifies that a replacement window has undergone stringent testing for energy efficiency and reliability. You can learn more about the label and what it means here.

Replacement Windows and Energy Efficiency FAQs

A: Yes, in general. How much you save on your energy bills will depend on what type of windows you are replacing, and how drafty they were. It will also depend on whether you replace all of the windows in your house, or just a few. Today’s replacement windows are much more energy-efficient across the board. Always opt for Energy Star windows.

Replacement Windows and Energy Savings

A: A window’s U-Factor measures how well a window insulates. The lower the U-Factor, the better a window will insulate and reduce heat loss in the winter.

A: The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SGHC) is a measurement of how much of the sun’s heat can come through the window. The lower the SGHC, the less heat passes through the window. In a colder climate, for windows facing East and West, you would want a low SGHC, while for windows facing South, you would want a higher SGHC.
