Siding Calculator: Siding Cost Breakdown

Siding Calculator: Siding Cost Breakdown

The number of different types of siding on the market has increased dramatically over the years. While 50 years ago your choices may have been limited, today’s options are numerous and give you a lot to think about. Included in the decision making process is the siding cost breakdown. Not all types of siding are priced equally, so consulting a siding calculator to help you determine price can be helpful.

Using a Siding Calculator

Siding calculators are designed to give you a rough idea of what it will cost to have new siding installed on your home. Prices can fluctuate widely depending on things like the area that you live in, the type of siding you’re having installed, and the shape that your home is currently in. However, getting a good idea of siding costs can help you at least begin to budget for the expense.

Remember that to get an accurate idea of what your project will ultimately cost, you need to have a formal estimate done by a siding contractor.

Siding Cost Breakdown

Even amongst materials, siding cost can only be given as an average. This is because there are different grades, thicknesses, and even designer styles that can affect the cost of materials. Siding is usually sold by the square foot, and priced the same way. Keep in mind that some manufacturers may bundle their siding, and you may need to “round up” to the next sized bundle if your square footage falls a little short, which can also increase your price.

Remember that these costs are only for the materials; installation will differ by region as well.

Vinyl Siding Costs

Vinyl siding can be found in “Good”, “Better”, and “Best” grades. The pricing for these materials, therefore, will increase will each grade.

The national averages for vinyl siding are:

  • $3.95 for the basic siding
  • $5.40 for mid-grade siding
  • $7.20 for architectural grade siding

Hardiplank Siding

Like vinyl siding, Hardiplank siding costs will vary depending on the grade of siding being purchased. National averages for Hardiplank siding are:

  • $4.28 for the basic siding
  • $5.28 for the mid-grade siding
  • $6.30 for architectural grade siding

Metal Siding

Metal siding is the catch all phrase for all types of metal siding including aluminum and galvanized steel planks. National averages do not differentiate for the type of metal siding you are using, and whether it is painted or vinyl coated. National averages for metal siding are:

  • $4.38 for the low-end siding
  • $5.83 for higher-end siding

Wood Siding

Like other types of siding, wood siding costs can range dramatically depending on the type and grade that you use. National averages do not differentiate for wood species or between planks and shingles. National averages wood siding are:

  • $5.16 for low-end siding
  • $6.84 for higher-end siding

Get an Estimate for Accurate Pricing

To get the most accurate pricing for your home, first determine the material of siding you are using and the total square footage for your home. You can now get an estimate from a reputable contractor for both the materials and the installation to find the total cost of siding your home.
