Northern Virginia Roofing Energy Savings

What is Green Roofing?

Green Roof (noun) 1. Green, or sustainable, roofs are environmentally sustainable, energy efficient, non-toxic systems that sometimes incorporate vegetation into their designs.

There are two types of green roof. One type consists of vegetation and soil planted over a waterproof membrane. Additional layers, such as a drainage mat and filter fabric are also  included.  We call this type of roof a "vegetative green" roof.  A second type of green roof, which we call "clean green", incorporates environmentally friendly materials and energy efficienct technology, achieving VOC compliance and energy cost savings.  This kind of green roof does not involve vegetation. NV Roofing provides full service installation for both types of green roof.

Understanding Green Roofing Types

Don't be fooled by imitators. Some companies may try to pass off a standard roof with some vegetation on top as a "green roof". However, if the entire process is not sustainable, including the membrane and insulation, it does not qualify as a green roof. When you choose NV Roofing, you can be sure your green roof will meet all the requirements necessary for attaining LEED® points, EPA compliance and building code compliance. Vegetation alone does not make a roof green or compliant.
